Althea Dance Company
Althea Dance Company (ADC) is a contemporary dance ensemble founded by Théa Bautista in 2018, established between New York and Paris.
Thea Bautista’s choreography seamlessly melds contemporary fluidity with a strong physicality, incorporating elements of floor work and emphasizing the dancers’ lines and extensions.
The company places a significant focus on international collaborations, engaging with artists from diverse domains such as writers, musicians, painters, and visual artists. Althea Dance Company not only thrives in traditional theater settings but also embraces unconventional venues, including warehouses, artist studios, art galleries, and outdoor spaces. Their performances are an exploration, combining the familiarity of theater with the excitement of unexpected locales. This approach allows them to engage with a broader audience, including those less acquainted with contemporary dance.
Althea Dance Company has graced prestigious venues and theaters on the global stage, including the Palais de Tokyo, Alvin Ailey Theater, Le Consulat Voltaire, Salle Ravel, The Place Theater, La MaMa Theater, Dumbo Dance Festival, White Wave Dance Festival, KoDaFe Dance Festival, Blois Danse Festival, Festival Dissidanse, the Fondation des États-Unis or even the Cité Miroir, in the United States and Europe.
Recently, the company initiated the FUSA Dance Festival (France USA Dance Festival) in collaboration with the Fondation des États-Unis, successfully launching its inaugural edition in July 2023. Over the years, ADC has cultivated strong partnerships with institutions like Prelude Project in New York, particularly for the collaborative venture ‘From the Temple,’ choreographed for visual artists Pinar&Viola. Additionally, a fruitful residency at the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris has been instrumental for the company since 2018.
To date, Althea Dance Company has showcased its work internationally across the US, Europe, and Mexico, with aspirations to further its international bonds and enrich its multicultural artistic vision on a global scale.
